Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi – the uniform used by the Jiu Jitsu practitioners is similar to the Judogi, but it comes with a difference of tighter cuffs on the jackets and pants. This facilitates the fighter to face the opponent with lesser material and provide the benefit of a closer fit. There is some recognized standards for the Gi to be eligible to be used for the competitions. Wearing of the Gi is a requirement in training.

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is similar to a tae kown, judo Gi or a karate Gi. To an untrained eye, they seem to be similar but all these are different. The judo Gi has a looser cut and the collar and sleeves will be much easier enabling the opponent to grab and trounce you. And the tae kown and karate gi are too thin to withstand in the grappling and there is chances to rip off after a few rolling sessions. In tournaments, organizers will have some strict regulations on Gi.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi usually comes in white, black or blue. Recently with the growth of the popularity of the sport, some craziest colors are emerging like green, red, yellow and pink. But most of the recognized tournaments will allow only for blue or white. While choosing the color one should bear in mind that wearing flashy colors may get you some reactions like some extra look or someone actually calling you on it which disrupt your training session or attention in the tournament.

The single weave Gi is subject to least durability, but will provide the comfort of light weight and flexibility. At the same time the double weave is more durable, but heavier and harder to maneuver it. While choosing the Gi one should decide between the mobility and durability. There are some other kinds of weaves like hybrid, gold and platinum. The hybrid weave is in between the single weave and double weave and is a popular choice.
